Parent activities at Breiðagerðisskóli
The education and welfare of students is a shared responsibility between home and school. It is the school’s responsibility to establish and maintain this cooperation. Good communication, cooperation and shared responsibility are key to a positive school environment. The school encourages parents to actively participate in organized parent activities.
Parent association
All parents and guardians of children at Breiðagerðisskóli are members of the Parent Association. The Parent Association is a formal forum for parents and guardians to discuss children’s education and matters related to upbringing and learning. Breiðagerðisskóli has had an active Parent Association since 1979.
The Parent Association raises funds through membership fees and other fundraising activities. The Parent Association does not receive regular funding.
About the Parent Association board
The Parent Association’s board is elected at the annual general meeting held each spring. All parents and guardians of children at the school may run for the Breiðagerðisskóli Parent Association board. The Parent Association operates under Article 9 of the Primary School Act (Law No. 91/2008). The law states that every primary school must have a parent association to support school activities, promote student welfare, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. The Parent Association defines its own rules of operation, including the election process for its board and the selection of representatives to the school council.
The board organizes the Parent Association’s winter program in collaboration with school administrators, including the fall festival, Christmas celebration, and Halloween party. Grade representatives work alongside the board for each grade level (see Grade Representatives).

Grade representatives
The Parent Association arranges for grade representatives to be elected in the fall. They work with the association's board to strengthen cooperation among parents, teachers and students within each grade. Grade representatives are elected by parents, nominated or volunteer for the role.
Grade representatives organize grade meetings, events and other activities. The Parent Association supports grade representatives by providing grade folders and other resources.
