The school

Breiðagerðisskóli is a primary school with about 370 students in grades 1-7. The school's core values are reflected in its motto: education - cooperation - well-being. Education refers to the school's main role as an educational institution, providing students with the basic knowledge needed for further studies, play, and work. Cooperation and well-being are prerequisites for academic success.

The school focuses on fostering positive interactions among students to create a positive school atmosphere. Each grade is viewed as a single unit. The educational foundation is based on individualized learning, recognizing that students have different needs.

Most of the school's students come from Jörfi and Vinagerði preschools. After completing the 7th grade, most students transfer to Réttarholtsskóli, where they complete their primary education.

Recreation

The after-school program Sólbúar is for children in grades 1 to 4, and the youth center Bústaðir offers diverse and enjoyable activities for children and adolescents.

Primary school meals

School meals are free for the 2024-2025 school year. However, the school still needs to track information about allergies and intolerances and limit food waste. Students must register for the school lunch program as before.

Parents/guardians register for the school lunch program in the Skólamatur system and select which weekdays their children will eat. Students should choose the same weekdays each week, such as every Tuesday and/or every Thursday. More information is on the Skólamatur website.

Parent cooperation

We are all in this together, and as the proverb goes it takes a village to raise a child. Reykjavík City schools make targeted efforts to consult with and increase parent involvement in school activities. All schools in Reykjavík City have an active parent association.

School districts

Reykjavík has many school districts, and the child's registered address determines their district school. Your child gets priority in their district school. Nevertheless, all parents have the choice to apply to any school in the city for their children according to the rules on school districts, applications, and admission. Here is information about streets in the Breiðagerðisskóli school district.

Evaluation of school activities

The goal of evaluating and monitoring the quality of work is to provide information about school activities, their results and development.

Self-assessment and school development are closely linked concepts. Decisions about changes and improvements in school operations must be based on evaluating the school's achievements.
